Electrical Technician

Location: Johannesburg, On-Site, Full Time

Electech Power Solutions is looking for a qualified and experienced candidate to fill the role of Solar Electrical Technician at their Johannesburg Head Office. This incumbent will be reportingto the General Manager – Projects.

The main scope for this position is to support our installation, maintenance, and technical support operations. The ideal candidate will ensure high standards of system quality and performance through hands-on support during installations, ongoing maintenance, inspections, and troubleshooting. You will also support our partnered brands – EMS (metering), LS (switchgear) and Phambili (Weidmuller) – under the EPS portfolio by providing technical assistance and post-installation services.

The key tasks & responsibilities for this position are to:

Delivery & Scheduling

  • Conduct quality assurance checks during solar PV installations to ensure compliance with safety standards, design specifications, and best practices
  • Perform repairs and maintenance of solar systems, including inverters, panels, cabling, and protective equipment
  • Conduct post-installation inspections, ensuring systems are performing as designed and all workmanship is up to standard
  • Assist with technical fault reporting, documentation, and escalation to internal teams or OEMs when required
  • Perform meter installations and commissioning activities per regulatory requirements
  • Identify and document snags during and after installation and ensure corrective actions are implemented
  • Carry out preventative maintenance and develop a proactive service checklist for installed systems
  • Support the projects team with site assessments to determine solar installation feasibility
  • Provide technical support to the EMS, LS and Phambili brands under Electech Power Solutions, including troubleshooting, diagnostics, and customer training when needed
  • Ensure compliance with local electrical codes (SANS 10142, NRS 097-2-1) and company quality standards
  • Work safely on rooftops, at heights, and within commercial environments with appropriate PPE and practices
  • Training will be provided to the candidate where necessary to fulfil the role if not proficient in all key responsibilities

Education and Experience

  • Qualified Electrician (Trade Test Certificate)
  • Valid Wireman’s License (Phase 3 preferred)
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in solar PV installations (commercial/industrial preferred)
  • Hands-on experience with solar inverters, AC/DC systems, combiner boxes, and metering equipment
  • Familiarity with post-installation inspection, system fault reporting, and maintenance protocols
  • Previous experience providing technical support to clients or brands is advantageous

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong understanding of solar PV components, performance testing, and maintenance practices
  • Proficient with electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and system layouts
  • Ability to use test equipment (multimeters, insulation testers, IV curve tracers, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of metering systems preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and safety compliance
  • Logical thinker with good fault-finding and diagnostic skills
  • Able to work independently and in teams under tight deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Professional, reliable, and solutions-oriented
